.
1. The protection of indigenous fish species and habitats as part of or natural
heritage is the sole responsibility of the state and this fact must be recognised
by the State. It is enshrined in the EU Water Framework Directive and EU Habitats
Directive that fish stocks be maintained
2. The role played by fishing clubs/organisations in the preservation and development of Inland fisheries must be recognised.
3. Priority access must be granted to Angling Clubs and organisations if Fisheries are to be leased in the Future.
4. Lease arrangements must provide for easy and adequate access to waters for all anglers.
5. A reduction of funding and service is an integral part of the FGS report. The report forecasts a reduction in staff numbers and less direct financial support for fisheries. This is not acceptable to NARA.
6. It is essential that the Government commit to provide adequate funding
for Inland Fisheries.
