There remain only 13 natural wild brown trout fisheries of consequence in Europe. Of these 12 are located in Ireland. This small number of relatively large, pristine, shallow, alkaline lakes capable of supporting large stocks of wild brown trout are the only fisheries of their kind left in Western Europe.Lough Sheelin is one of these.
