A youth angling day has been arranged for the 2nd July
As in previous years I encourage all members to bring young anglers to the lake for this event. There will be fly tying and fly casting lessons and everyone will get an opportunity to catch some fish. All participants will get a small prize and there is a charge of €10. €5 goes towards membership and the remainder covers some of the cost of the barbeque and prizes. I would appreciate as in previous years help from the more senior anglers for this most enjoyable day. Starting time 11am from Fisheries offices in Kilnahard.
The McDonald cup will be held on the 6th August 2011
Our annual stream enhancement competition will be held on the 1st October this year. Once again the LSTPA asks for support from all our members.
The McDonald cup will be held on the 6th August this year. Fishing is from 11am-6pm from Kilnahard pier. Entry fee is €20 and rules will be announced on the morning of the competition.
The club will continue to hold competitions on a catch and kill basis but will limit the number of fish caught through size and bag limits. We will hold competitions on a catch and release basis where this is feasible. Competitions are one of the major methods of fundraising for habitat restoration and other development work that is carried out on the lake. Competitions are also social outings that are enjoyed by large numbers of anglers.

Dear Member
The fish off for the Irish international team is being fished on the Lake on the 14th May. The club is looking for 14 volunteer boatmen who will assist in the running of the competition on a catch and release basis. Anyone interested in helping out please contact me.
The youth fishing and training day has been provisionally set for the 23rd July this year. Further details later.
Martin O’Grady has just completed his annual fish stock survey on the lake. Results are very positive and encouraging. However it must be realised that Lough Sheelin is a lake in recovery and we should do all we can to encourage catch and release of wild trout. The LSTPA policy is that we should kill no more than one wild trout per day and no more than three in any week.
Anyone wishing to pay their membership sub can
do so at the Kilroy Cup or can send €30 to myself
at the above address or to Thomas Lynch Omard Kilnaleck
Co Cavan.
I look forward to seeing you on the 20th
